Filby Builders are an independent, family-owned building company based in Brighton. We have been in business for over 40 years and operate in and around East and West Sussex, including Hove, Worthing, Peacehaven, Newhaven, Shoreham-by-Sea, Lewes and Burgess Hill.

The business is very much a family affair. A building and decorating company was originally founded by the father as RE Filby and changed to RE Filby & Sons when James, the elder son, joined over 20 years ago. James and his brother Mark then took over in 2010 when it changed to Filby Builders and the company became limited in 2013. The two have kept the family tradition going and have since been joined by sister Sam and brother-in-law Jason. 

Meet the team

It always helps to put a face to a name so meet the friendly crowd at Filby Builders.

James is a carpenter by trade and has been for over 25years. James does most of the paper work but is happier on site doing carpentry! He enjoys the bespoke joinery and fitting kitchens but also plays a big part in the structural works. He has just become a dad to a little boy with his partner Vicky. They also have a dog called Teddy and he enjoys going out on his motorbikes, walks and spending time with family and friends.

James Filby - Director

Mark Filby - Director

Tom Gilbert

Tom started in December 2018 so has only been with the company a short while after deciding on a career change. Tom is still learning the trades but is an enthusiastic, hard-working member of the team with great potential. Tom enjoys playing football in a team and going out socialising with friends and family.

Jason is self-employed but works very closely with us. He is brother-in law to James and Mark. Jason qualified as a landscape gardener but in the last few years has turned more to construction. He now installs a majority of the structural work and some of the brick work. Jason is married to Sam and he enjoys mountain biking, films and spending time with his family.

Jason Langridge

Sam works in the office part time dealing with accounts, invoices and general day to day paperwork. She is also a veterinary nurse and married to Jason, with two boys, a cat, two rabbits and Milo the border collie puppy. Her free time is spent with family, friends and their pets!
