About this Project
Margaret Street lies directly off Marine Drive, the main road running along Brighton seafront. Like many of the properties in the surrounding area, this project was a three storey mid terrace period property that the owners felt was too cramped and enclosed. With so much of the UK’s existing housing stock being terraced, a recurring goal is that of opening up compact spaces. Current lifestyles demand flexibility and, working with our architects, we aim to modify older housing stock into spaces that work for modern day living.
Inner space
As space to the sides and rear of the property was very limited, this project saw an internal and external refurbishment to reclaim and introduce light and space. This included new services, windows and patio sliding doors. By reclaiming an existing light well, we brought light to the lower ground floor kitchen. Pocket doors and clever storage solutions concealed cupboards and a WC and utility area.
Let there be light
New sliding doors opened the rear of the property to an existing terrace as well as flooding the interior with much needed light. A contemporary en suite to the master bedroom added a touch of luxury and bespoke joinery with clean lines throughout rounded off the renovation and created a bright and comfortable home.
This project was a finalist in the prestigious LABC Building Excellence Awards 2016 South East in the ‘Best Extension or Alteration to an Existing Home’ category.
